Review by Steve Kofoed King of Fighters 95 is the first of a series of Neo geo arcade games to be converted to the saturn. The Neo is known for its abilities for 2D games and expectations were high for the saturn version to be arcade perfect.Well the programmers did a perfect job. The games graphics are a mix of very colourful backgrouds and a large list of characters, all of whom have different fighting styles. The saturn version retained all of the animation of the arcade and each background is also identical to the arcade. For those of you who are unfimiliar with this game it involves a tournament of 24 fighters who can be matched up in teams of three. The teams can be of your own choice or you can stay with the pre-selected teams form KoF94, the previous game.Teams included are china, italy, brazil, america, japan, mexico, england and korea. There are two selectable bosses also included bringing the tally of fighters to 26. Never before has so many fighters been included in one game and with so many styles it is sure to keep even the biggest fighting freak busy for months. Players control is identical to the arcade so many combos are easily accesible.A new attack from the dodge position is possible now enableing the player to fight even when avoiding the opponent.KoF95 also has included reversals wich for the experienced player opens up a whole new game in which any opponents attack can be blocked and the reversed with a special move. As mentioned before the graphics are identical to the arcades high qualityand the sound is also from the arcade and not the neo cd.I found this prefereable as the music on neo arcades is always betters than cd's. Having compared both games, as I own the neo cartridge, I can say that the saturn version is a perfect version of the coin op and as such can highily recommend it as the best fighter on the saturn system.(outside of VF2 of course) Graphics 9 sound 9.5 gameplay 9.5 (fast, furious and longterm) Overall 9 A brillaint addition to the saturn library ps. A note must go to the loading times wich range between 2-4 second and are the best on the machine so far. |
