Sega is Still On Track
Catch22
eTOMAS@concentric.netWhat's this? Everyone feeling so down on Sega because of their showing at E3? I can't believe it. For me, I couldn't be happier or hungrier. I haven't held my breath for a game like this since VF2. I'm talking about Last Bronx, which is looking like the most advanced, graphically, Saturn game. With Last Bronx and Dead or Alive (see pics at TK's Saturn Fan Page), the Saturn will have two "must have" 3D fighting games at the same time...and VF3 is still being released after that. Dead or Alive is looking just as awesome, BTW, as Last Bronx. The characters sport huge amounts of polygons. Of course, if you are gonna buy import, you will get Last Bronx in late July, and DoA shortly after that! Not to mention we can still look forward to Netlink games, which I'm using now to do this editorial. On-line gaming could sell some more gamers to Saturn once they experience it. Duke Nukem, Sega RAlly, Daytona CCE, Virtual On, Bomberman: all coming to on-line gaming. For the remade titles like Rally and Virtual On, Sega will have specials on these for their netlink versions. Also, we got Sonic R, Sonic Jam, Thunderforce 5 (Japan), Samurai Showdown 4 (Japan), Darkstalkers 3, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Side Poket 3 (Japn), Lunar Silver Star Story, Virus (Japan), Grandia (Japan), Touring Car Championship, Quake...and more 2d fighting games utilizing the RAM cart. I'm sure I missed a couple of games that has potential, but the point is clear: Sega is taking care of us till the next system comes, and that's pretty soon; in my estimation: in about a year.
Let's all be happy that Saturn has made 3 years, and we all know that it had more than enough "A" titles to merit it as a mild success. When the next console comes, things will be different. Sega has learned from it's mistakes, and has the people responsible for Playstation's successful launch; like Bernie Stolar. I look forward to whatever Sega does in the future and will continue to support them with my "green-duckets", despite of the negativity of people on Sega after E3. But I do admit that Sega has made a critical mistake in ruining the relationship they "had" with Working Designs. If my memory is correct, Vic (CEO of WD) even worked to promote the Saturn at retailer shops. Just another hard lesson to be learned, but hey, we all made stupid mistakes like this before, and boy was this a big mistake!! And you wait, all the casual gamers on the PSX bandwagon just for the graphics will jump ship. The speculation on the next system can start coming, cause I'm ready, for the specs, and for the upcoming lineup for Saturn. "If it's not Sega, it's not video games."
